Located in South Perth and just five minutes from the CBD, Perth Zoo is home to animals and plants from all corners of the globe.

Go for a bushwalk and discover koalas, quokkas, emus, kangaroos and Simmo the enormous crocodile. Explore the Asian Rainforest and experience Asian Elephants, Sumatran Tigers, Sun Bears or gibbons. Wander through the African Savannah and encounter rhinos, zebras, giraffe, a lion and meerkats. These are just some of the animals you could meet from all corners of the globe at Perth Zoo.

Make a day of it and enjoy free keeper talks. For the more adventurous, get up-close and book an Eye to Eye experience – you might feed a giraffe, meet a quokka or touch the rough skin of a bearded dragon.

Perth Zoo is a great attraction for families with toddlers and children. Children under 4 enter free and there are special rates for families and groups.

A Zoo Friends membership is great value and means you can visit the Zoo as many times as you like for an entire year with many other great benefits. City of South Perth residents receive a 10% discount off memberships.

There are always special events happening at the zoo, so check their website before your visit.

Perth Zoo and the City of South Perth

The history and development of the City of South Perth is linked closely with that of Perth Zoo.

Established in 1898, Perth Zoo very quickly became a significant leisure destination in the early years of colonial settlement.

Infrastructure and transport links, particularly ferry services, developed as a result of the attraction Perth Zoo holds for West Australians, interstate visitors and tourists from around the world.

As a modern zoo, Perth Zoo is part of a global conservation community and continues to be a popular destination that delivers enriching experiences to generations of WA and visitor families. The Zoo aims to connect people with nature, inspire a passion to protect biodiversity while providing meaningful ways for people to act for wildlife conservation.

The City of South Perth’s partnership with Perth Zoo demonstrates a shared commitment to the community, education, environment and sustainability.
