You will find below a number of documents and links that contain valuable information on walking, cycling and using public transport in the City. In 1999 every household in the City was contacted as part of an Individualised Marketing Program. Householders were encouraged to examine their travel behaviour and reduce their reliance on the use of the private motor vehicle. They were also provided with information that would allow them to make informed decisions about their travel behaviour. As a result of the Individualised Marketing Program, the number of trips within the City using a private motor vehicle was decreased and has been sustained by 14 percent. The City provides information to residents about walking, cycling and public transport. This includes the distribution of a Local Access Guide containing information on bus routes and the location of bus stops as well as shared paths and cycle friendly routes. The Travelsmart Local Action Plan Advisory Group meets monthly to consider and implement the City’s Travelsmart Local Action Plan, which outlines a number of different strategies in relation to infrastructure and promotion. Consisting of community members, administrative officers and elected members the Group is primarily responsible for the planning of Travelsmart projects. The City is actively involved in providing infrastructure that encourages walking, cycling and the use of public transport. The redesign of Freeway overpasses, pedestrian friendly retail precincts, pedestrian crossings and timetable information stands are just some of the infrastructure programs that the City has already progressed. The City is currently implementing a number of infrastructure programs that will benefit cyclist, walkers and public transport users. These include the installation of new bus shelters and the upgrading of old bus shelters, the provision of bicycle parking facilities around the City and the ongoing provision of shared paths and bicycle lanes.
