ENROLMENT INFORMATION FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION IN OCTOBER 2009

In order to be able to vote in City of South Perth Council elections you need to be enrolled to vote.  Enrolment eligibility claims may be submitted to the City any time before close of rolls for the elections due in October 2009. 

Residents

Residents of the City are eligible to vote in Council elections if they are eligible to vote in State Elections and are listed on the State electoral roll.  You will be eligible to vote if you voted in the last State election and have not changed your address since then. 

If you are a resident of the City and you wish to check whether you are enrolled to vote please visit the Western Australian Electoral Commission web site, choose the “Enrolment” menu item and then click on “Check Your Enrolment.”  Enter your details into the electronic form that appears and your details will be checked against the State Electoral Roll.  If you are enrolled to vote your details will be confirmed and information about your enrolment will appear.  You will also be informed if you are not enrolled to vote or your details are incorrect.

To make an application for inclusion on the State Electoral Roll please print the following form, compete it and return it in an envelope (no postage required) addressed to:

Absent owner

You may be eligible to vote in Council elections if you own property within the City of South Perth but are not a resident of the City.  In order to make an enrolment eligibility claim as an absent owner of property in the City please complete the following form and return it to the Electoral Officer at the City of South Perth (contact details below).  The application form is also available at the Civic Centre and Sir Walter Murdoch Library Civic Centre and Manning Branches.  Please ensure that you include your date of birth when completing the form.  The Electoral Officer will consider your claim, decide whether you are eligible and inform you of your enrolment in writing.

Occupiers

You may be eligible to vote in Council elections if you are an occupier of property within the City of South Perth but are not enrolled on the State electoral roll as a resident of the City.  This category applies to the occupiers of  business premises within the City.  In order to qualify as an occupier you must have a continual right of occupation of the premises for at least the next three months.  To make an enrolment eligibility claim as a non residential occupier of property in the City please complete the following form and return it to the Electoral Officer at the City of South Perth (contact details below.)  The application form is also available at the Civic Centre and Sir Walter Murdoch Library Civic Centre and Manning Branches.  Please ensure that you include your date of birth when completing the form.  The Electoral Officer will consider your claim, decide whether you are eligible and inform you of your enrolment in writing.

Removal of Address from the Register

The electoral roll and register are publicly available documents.  If you are of the opinion that the publication of your address would place your safety, or the safety of your family at risk it is possible to make a claim to have your address removed from the roll.  If you are enrolled on the State electoral roll you can make a claim under s51B of the Electoral Act.  Please complete the following form and forward directly to the following address:

If you have made an application for inclusion on the owners and occupiers roll, this claim can be made on the attached form under Regulation 13(2) of the Local Government (Elections) Regulations 1997.  In order to make the claim it will be necessary to give the CEO a declaration made before a Justice of the Peace or Commissioner for Declarations declaring that the publication of your address would place you or your family at risk.  The CEO will consider the declaration and advise you in writing whether your address will be omitted.
