Code of Conduct

"A new Code of Conduct for the City of South Perth was adopted by Council at its September 2008 meeting, and reviewed at its meeting held in March 2009."

Each local government is required under the Local Government Act to adopt a code, however the content, apart from two matters prescribed by regulation (and described below), is left up to each local government to determine.

The new code replaces the existing code which was adopted in 2002. The code applies to councillors and employees, being incorporated into their contract of employment with the City.

The new code is similar to the existing code in many respects in that its main purpose is to set out a public statement of values and standards of behaviour which all officers and councillors agree to, and are expected to observe.

It is important to note that the code does not replace but is complementary to the statutory obligations (e.g. conflicts of interests, disclosure of information) which are imposed on officers and councillors by the Local Government Act or any other written laws.
