City Environment

The City of South Perth is noted for its gracious street trees, extensive parks and gardens and its leafy environment, all of which complement the urban village atmosphere cherished by its residents.

On three sides of the City, the foreshores of the Swan-Canning Estuary sustain important naturally occurring native vegetation and wildlife, but by virtue of its developed state and inner city location, only seven hectares of inland bushland remains in reserves managed by local government. However, larger areas of remnant bushland occur on private land, mostly in Aquinas College, Manning and Curtin Primary Schools.

The City of South Perth is a highly urbanised environment, which is dominated by residential land uses. The City of South Perth provides a range of dwelling types often found in a conventional garden city suburb and a range of medium to high density housing types. As an inner city area, it has used its land area efficiently and maintained attractive urban and natural environs.

The natural environment in the City has four main components:

  • Remnant Native Vegetation
  • Public Parks and Gardens
  • Street Trees
  • Private Parks and Gardens

Managing the City Environment describes the strategies and management plans the City has developed to manage the environment.

Community and Visitor Information describes City programs, procedures, park and reserve facilities and useful information about the environment and local community.
