Tell us who makes your City GREAT!

 Nominate a Citizen or Young Citizen of the Year.

Do you know an outstanding individual or community group within the City of South Perth worthy of recognition? Someone who tirelessly works to make the City somewhere great to live.

The actions of individuals and groups within the City often go unnoticed, but this is your chance to let them be counted! Mayor of City of South Perth, John Collins JP is urging local residents to submit nominations for individuals or groups in their local community who contribute to making the City of South Perth a great place to live.

Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year

Each year the City recognises the  contributions of two of its citizens through the Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Award. Their contributions could be to local sport, community education, seniors and the elderly, local environment and more. They could effect the whole community or just a neighborhood - either way if you think they are worthy of acknoledgement, nominate them.

Nominations can be made in the following categories:
* The City of South Perth Citizen of the Year Award for a person under 25 years
* The City of South Perth Citizen of the Year Award for a person 25 years or over 

Premiers' Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards

Exclusive to Western Australia, the awards are presented in every community across the state. Designed to acknowledge and reward local residents and groups for their contribution to community life and their active participation in local projects.  The awards focus on community contribution rather than on a personal achievement.

Nominations can be made in the following categories:
* The Premiers’ Australia Day Active Citizenship Award for a person under 25 years
* The Premiers’ Australia Day Active Citizenship Award for a person 25 years or over 
* The Premiers’ Australia Day Active Citizenship Award for a Community Group or Event

Nominations for both award programs should be submitted to the City of South Perth, Cnr Sandgate St & South Tce, SOUTH PERTH. Entries close Friday 17 November 2006.

The Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year awards as well as the Premiers’ Australia Day Active Citizenship Award will be announced during the City of South Perth's Australia Day Flag Ceremony and Great Aussie Breakfast on Friday 26 January 2006 at Sir James Mitchell Park, South Perth.

So if you see someone doing good in your community, acknowledge their efforts and nominate them NOW!

Becoming an Australian Citizen in the City of South Perth

If you are planning on becoming an Australian Citizen, information can be obtained by visiting the Department of Immigration & Multicultural & Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA) website www.immi.gov.au or by phoning 131 880.   The DIMIA will arrange the Australian Citizenship application, interview and approval process.

The City of South Perth hosts regular Citizenship Ceremonies for residents who receive approval through DIMIA. The Citizenship Ceremonies are held regularly throughout the year  and are the final step in taking up Australian Citizenship.

Every year the City hosts a special Citizenship Ceremony as part of its Australia Day celebrations. This Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony is held at Sir James Mitchell Park, South Perth on January 26.
