Registrations for entry to the 2008 City of South Perth Emerging Artist Award opened on the 25 August - giving Western Australian artists the opportunity to win up to $4,000. The exhibition will take place at Heritage House from 30 October to 25 November 2008, with only selected works hung for the exhibition. Since its inception in 2003 Art Award has grown significantly, with a total of 124 entries, 63 works showcased and close to 500 visitors to the exhibition at Heritage House in 2007. This year’s Art Award will be targeted at “Emerging Artists”, effectively opening the competition to up-and-coming talent as well as those more established in the field. The Award exhibition is a great opportunity for young, emerging and established artists to have their work viewed by the wider community, as well as providing an opportunity for the sale of the artworks. The prizes for the individual award categories in 2008 are very generous and include: • $4,000 City of South Perth Art Award - Emerging Artist (Acquisitive) • $500 IGA Como Best Work on a Local Theme Award • $500 MillPoint Caffe Bookshop Young Artist Award • $500 John McGrath MLA Best Local Artist Award • $500 The Karalee on Preston Peoples Choice Award • Download a registration form and submit by 10 October.
