Citizenship Ceremonies

Citizenship ceremonies are a formal part of the citizenship process. A person becomes an Australian citizen on the date they attend the citizenship ceremony and make the Pledge of Commitment to Australia.

The City of South Perth usually hosts citizenship ceremonies every few months depending on the number of people who are waiting to receive their citizenship certificates. Once the number reaches between 40–50 people, the City sends out invitations with details of the ceremony to the applicants.

The Mayor speaks at citizenship ceremonies and presents certificates to applicants. Attendees receive a small gift such as a native flower or plant and refreshments are provided after the ceremony.

For more information about citizenship ceremonies, contact the City’s Civic Functions and Ceremonies Officer on 9474 0721.

Citizenship application forms can be obtained from the City of South Perth or online at www.citizenship.gov.au.
