Town Planning Strategies

In 2011, following Our Vision Ahead, the City commenced the first of a number of strategic projects designed to guide future development throughout South Perth over the next twenty years.

The Our Vision Ahead process identified community aspirations including the accommodation of a growing population, facilitation of imaginative and well integrated planning, and a review of the Town Planning Scheme.

These strategic projects include the Local Housing Strategy, Local Commercial Strategy Review, Public Open Space Strategy, Local Planning Strategy and a review of Town Planning Scheme No. 6.

The Strategies are being developed from these community aspirations and acknowledge the City's growth under the State government's strategic planning document Directions 2031 and Beyond.

Extensive community engagement will take place for each of the strategies, followed by adoption of the draft strategies by the Council of the City of South Perth.

The Local Housing Strategy, Local Commercial Strategy Review and Public Open Space Strategy, which are being developed by the City, will then combine with a holistic Local Planning Strategy to inform a review of Town Planning Scheme No. 6.

The Local Planning Strategy, which will be formally endorsed by the Western Australian Planning Commission, will represent the City's direction in urban form and land use. The Town Planning Scheme will follow on from this process to facilitate development that reflects Our Vision Ahead, Directions 2031 and Beyond, and the Local Planning Strategy.

The draft Local Housing Strategy is the first to be developed.

The community engagement period has been extended until 14 February 2012.
