Centre management claim they approached the COSP on March 13 in 2008 with a view to
establish a safety and security committee in response to safety concerns.
1) Can you confirm that this did take place and can you provide details about what was discussed?
2) Are there minutes of the meeting? If so are you able to send them to me?
3) What was the City's response to this proposal? Did the concept of a safety committee for that area have merit? Why was this abandoned?
4) Does the City have anything similar in place for this precinct?
5) Is the Council aware of any antisocial behaviour in the vicinity of Waterford Plaza?

City of South Perth Officers and representatives from Waterford Plaza met on 13 March 2008 to speak about common safety priorities between local stakeholders, Curtin University, Waterford Plaza, State Neighbourhood Watch, City of South Perth, Town of Victoria Park and the Technology Park precinct.

As part of our commitment to the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan, the City supports cooperative partnerships with local stakeholders help to strengthen communities by monitoring safety and crime prevention.

A successful community safety strategy uses a
mixture of short, medium and long term approaches, from community education to early intervention programs with families and assisting vulnerable groups in the community.

The City coordinates a quarterly Safety and Crime Prevention Forum involving, Police, Local Member John McGrath MLA, the Office of Crime Prevention, Neighbourhood Watch, Department of Housing, Curtin University and elected Members.

The City is also involved in the University’s Crime Prevention Committee and there are active Neighbourhood Watch coordinators covering Waterford and Karawara.

5) Is the Council aware of any antisocial behaviour in the vicinity of Waterford Plaza?
Some safety concerns have been identified in the area, and the City looks forward to continuing to work with the community to address these in the most effective way.
