At a Special Council Meeting held on 20 October, the City of South Perth’s newly elected Councillors were sworn in and the City’s new Deputy Mayor was elected.

City of South Perth Mayor James Best said: “The City welcomes Councillor Sue Doherty as Deputy Mayor, Councillor Veronica Lawrance (Civic Ward), Councillor Glen Cridland (Como
Beach Ward), and Councillor Betty Skinner (Mill Point Ward.

“Congratulations to re-elected Councillors Colin Cala (McDougall Ward) Les Oszdolay (Manning Ward) and Kevin Trent (Moresby Ward). Elected Councillors have all been elected for a four year term and are up for re-election in 2013.”

“The Council also thanks those who nominated and worked hard in the spirit of democracy but were unsuccessful.”

The Mayor said it is a privilege to be chosen as a representative of the people for the City of South Perth.

“This Council can assure residents that elected members will work hard to maintain an open, honest and trusting partnership. Local government is the sector of government that has the most direct influence of the everyday aspect of people’s lives.”

"The community has given this Council the opportunity to protect and improve our great city in partnership with residents, and this responsibility is taken very seriously by the elected members and city officers.

"With the calibre, experience and qualifications of the leadership team, elected members and officers working together, I am very confident that we will build on the past and make some significant achievements during the next four years.

"The City has some complex challenges ahead of us and we will need all our collective energies to achieve outcomes that make a real difference in our neighbourhoods."
